There may come a time when you need to set up your Windows 11 PC on a mobile hotspot. Here’s how to do it.
There may be times when you need to turn your Windows 11 PC into a mobile hotspot. This allows you to connect mobile devices to the PC’s Wi-Fi signal. This can be useful when you live in a rural area, for example.
Create a mobile hotspot in Windows 11
First, open settings from the start menu or use the keyboard shortcut Windows key + I to open the settings directly.
Once you have opened the settings, click Network and Internet from the list of items on the left.
Now in the list of items on the right click on Mobile access point.
When the Mobile Hotspot section opens, you will find various options. Before activating the “Mobile Hotspot”, you must configure it.
Make sure to switch “Share my Internet connection from” to Wi-Fi or Ethernet, whichever works best for your situation. In my example I am using Wi-Fi but if your PC is wired use Ethernet.
The next step in the list is to choose how you are going to “Share on” the connection. Wi-Fi is usually fine for you, but you can use Bluetooth or Ethernet if you’re connected.
Now in the “Properties” section, click on the button Edit button.
Then set the network name (something easy to find) —a password so that users can connect to it. And the network band, that is, 5 GHz or 2.4 GHz. If you are not sure, set it to the “All Available” option. After making your selections, click on the to safeguard button.
Now that you have configured the access point, go back to the “Mobile access point” switch.
Connect to the Windows 11 mobile hotspot
Connecting your device to the Windows 11 hotspot you created is a snap. Launch your device’s network settings to find and connect to it. For example, here I am using an iPhone to find and connect to the hotspot. I am going to Settings> Wi-Fi, search for the access point and connect by entering the password and press To rejoin.
It should also be noted that Windows 11 includes an “Energy Saver” mode. Enable it if you want Windows to disable the access point if no device is connected to it. This will save on battery power throughout the day.
Of course, if you no longer want to use your PC as an access point, you can turn off the switch.
That’s all there is to it: a simple process. And if you’re not yet on Windows 11, learn how to create a mobile hotspot on Windows 10.
