Released in July 2022, “Grand” is a single included on Different Man. Showcasing a different style of music for Brown, this song details Brown feeling grateful after a particularly difficult time.

“The voices in my head made me want to break down,” laments Brown. “He weighed me down / He had me in a corner, he beat me but I’m fine now / True to what they say, if there’s a will, then there’s a way out / J took all my dreams, I took them because I’m awake now.

Upon reflection, Brown comes to the conclusion that his life is “great” despite not knowing his “purpose” at first. This is reflected in the repeated phrases throughout “Grand”, as well as the title of the song.

“Oh, isn’t life great? And I like a little whiskey in my hand,” Brown sings in the chorus. “Make it disappear then reappear / In fact, I never want this life to end / Until the end.”

‘Grand’ talks about Kane Brown’s experience with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic

As with most artists, Brown’s music career has been impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, suspending/postponing live performances for safety reasons. This artist revealed that “Grand” was written from the “dark space” Brown felt during quarantine.

“I was kind of like a dark space over 40 – not really knowing my purpose,” the artist said during an interview with Audacy. “We couldn’t tour or anything like that, so I was just sitting at home like everyone else was.”

Brown went on to say, “I started to realize that I have a beautiful family and this artist opportunity and all that and life is just ‘grand’.”

With the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Brown announced his US-based “Drunk or Dreaming” tour, starting in 2023. Ticket sales matched the release date of Different Man.
