Police search gunman after reporting Johnson City Bank theft

Johnson City Police and other law enforcement agencies were searching the village for a suspect following an armed robbery at a bank near Wilson Medical Center.

The burglary reported at the NBT Bank branch at 331 Main Street occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Preliminary reports indicated that a man whose face was allegedly covered by a mask was showing a black handgun.

There were apparently no injuries in the incident. We didn’t know what might have been taken.

Johnson City police officers and Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies were at the bank branch shortly after receiving the report.

A dog unit from the sheriff’s office searched the area near the bank for a short time.

The NBT branch is located in a 102-year-old building that was once the home of Charles F. Johnson Jr. The bank renovated the historic home and opened the office on the site in 2008.
