Trippie Redd Releases Moody Dual Release, “First Draft”

Trippie Redd may have plenty of smash bangers under his belt, but don’t let that detract from his overall versatility as an artist. The Ohio native proves that point again with a new two-track pack titled First try, which sees him going in a more acoustic direction with pained vocals. This double drop comes just months after “Big 14” with Moneybagg Yo and Offset, and after he called his next album A love letter for you 5 his best work to date.

The first track, “Save Me, Please”, is a discouraged acoustic ballad that is reminiscent of his previous forays into emo and balladism. His voice is gloomy and strained in this cut, underlined by the minimal and echoing acoustic guitar passages. Trippie works with both elements throughout the song, with a few electric guitar lines to inject melody, and the results are compelling. He seems to sing about a difficult relationship. He is “tired of the fighting”, lamenting the distance between them and begging them to save him from himself. It’s a short moment, but tender all the same. “Save Me, Please” was also accompanied by a music video that depicts Trippie in candlelit church halls, dark hallways and a moonlit forest.

“1st Degree Murder” is the second title of First try, and it’s also in a fuzzy state of romantic reckoning. The 23-year-old says he would kill if someone spoke of his love and proclaimed the high state he put him in. This track, however, has a lot more of a melodic trap flavor to it than the first, with a fast, wavy beat. and a passionate vocal delivery that sticks the melody in your head.

Given that Trippie continues to expand on his many musical influences (and has a $30 million deal with 10k Projects), we’re sure to have a versatile and lively rage when he drops. A love letter for you 5 soon. Stay tuned to HotNewHipHop for the latest updates on this, and check out “Save Me, Please” and “1st Degree Murder” below.

Just hit my line and I’m on the way
You know I don’t play you and me
It’s gonna be first degree murder
