VANDERLUST Share Space Ballad “The Last Ganymede”

Cosmic metalheads Vanderlust, along with members of S91 and Dreal, will release their self-titled debut album on April 15 via Rockshots Records.

Inviting fans into their universe with their debut single ‘Scavengers of Kuiper Belt’ last December, the space musicians are ready to share their next musical constellation titled ‘The Last Ganymedian’, which is one of two ballads from the scrapbook.

“It starts as a country-acoustic song (played on acoustic guitar) then turns into metal riffs. It’s a 90’s oriented song, slow and grungy. No prog-technical parts but very dynamic vocals and epic atmospheres .The Last Ganymedian…should we still consider him a human being?”, the group adds.

Born to travel the cosmos, Italian Vanderlust is a power heavy metal band with prog-thrash influences that tells stories of space travel, astronomy, space engineering and sci-fi adventures.

“We tried to mix a prog-thrashy riff in the roots of Megadeth, Vektor and Tool with epic vocals like Iron Maiden, Helloween, Angra and Lione’s Rhapsody. We also put sci-fi elements into our songs, so you can hear something from Voivod too, adds the band.

This first record is like a star system with 12 different planets. The star in the center of the system represents the heavy-power metal around all the songs that spin. Although all the tracks are irradiated by the same light, they are all different from each other. Vanderlust has fast, slow and doom, bright and shiny thrash to grunge, and darker songs. Like the planets, which appear as mere little dots of light, but are actually large worlds, Vanderlust’s songs are more complex than they first appear. In fact, you can easily sing some of the choruses even though there are complex riffs in the background. Vanderlust is particularly proud of the participation of opera singer Letizia Cappellini who sings on some tracks and helps the group to further expand the vocal range of their compositions. The band also adds the presence of synths and electronic elements to the compositions to give the sci-fi vibe to the lyrics.

“The main goal was to create a metal band that could be an inspiration for young people, a band that could tell them stories of the future when humanity has exceeded its limits and the solar system will be a colony whole human being. This idea came to mind of founding members Francesco and Santo when they began their search for other members who might be suitable. Drummer Giacomo Mezzetti joined the space odyssey just before the outbreak of covid-19. Singer Riccardo Morello joined the band during the first lockdown in Italy, so the first song was composed entirely online, using video calls and file sharing.” add the group.
